Swiss brand iXS specialise in the production of technical clothing and protection for motocross and mountain biking. Straight away, the FLOW EVO+ knee pad stands out from the test field with its olive-green colour. Tipping the scales at 143 g, it’s one of the lightest pads in the test. Compared to its competitors, it’s rather compact and features a relatively short sleeve with only a small portion of fabric extending over the thigh and calf.
ION K Lite – In our 2022 trail knee pad group test
German manufacturer ION has its roots in the water sports sector, where it’s known primarily for wetsuits. However, in 2012 they added an entire bike line to their product range, which includes clothing, accessories and protection. For 2022, the K Lite was redeveloped from the ground up and designed to offer medium impact protection for enduro oriented riding – which makes it a perfect match for this test! A medium strength material lines the side panels of the pads while a thin mesh patch covers the back of the knee.

While the Canadian manufacturer is mainly known for its bike frames and components like handlebars, stems and pedals, it also includes a wide range of clothing in its portfolio. The Rift knee pad sports a discreet design and is made entirely of a lightweight mesh, with an abrasion-resistant material lining the sewn-in protector. At 147 g, the Rift is one of the lightest knee pads in this test, while its € 101.95 price tag makes it slightly more expensive than the average.
AMPLIFI Havok Knee Zip – In 2022 our trail knee pad group test
AMPLIFI is a Bavarian sports equipment brand that specialises in the manufacture of protectors, bags and accessories for ski, snowboard and mountain biking. With its Level 2 certification, the Havok Knee Zip should ensure a high level of protection. In our lab test, it ranked second right behind the POC Joint VPD 2.0 Knee, measuring 11 kN residual force at 3.8 ms. However, at 213 g and €119, it also ranks alongside the heaviest and most expensive pads in the test field.
