Jury Verdict The new CANYON Spectral CF is a lesson in understatement. This trail bike doesn’t need an attention-grabbing paint job to draw your eye; even stationary, it scores points with its pure elegance, use of form, and product design. On the trail the balanced handling and suspension tick every box. Punching well above its weight, it feels like it possesses far more than 140mm of travel, inspiring confidence and demonstrating great versatility. The rider is always in full control whether on Alpine terrain or flow-trails. The light and rigid carbon-fibre frame forms the perfect basis for an all-round machine whose adventure capabilities are underscored with a 2×10 drivetrain and ergonomic finishing kit.

Jury Verdict With the introduction of the Vibrocore System, SPANK has declared war against the dreaded arm pump! The trick is hidden inside the bars, which contain a special foam core to filter out high-frequency vibrations and thus reduce the load on your hands and lower arms – a real advantage on long descents. This results in only a marginal weight increase, and the jury praised the low price for the new technology which provides consumers with an alternative to expensive (and sometimes too stiff) carbon bars. For both downhillers and trail bikers, life could become much more comfortable with the SPANK SPIKE 800 Race Vibrocore bars.

Jury Verdict The X-Fusion Revel HLR sets a new benchmark! It’s not just the attention-grabbing gold finish, but also the technical details of the exclusive 160mm inverted fork that seduced us. It responds to impacts with almost no perceptible resistance and demonstrates a phenomenal plushness. The downhill World Cup-proven damping system offers an exceptionally well-defined ride and creates maximum front-end traction. Thanks to the Gold-E-Locks System with three internal guide blocks in each stanchion, the fork stiffness is convincing and you can navigate precisely. The strictly limited production run and US production guarantee the highest manufacturing quality, and an optionally available lifetime service package will ensure long-term trail fun!

Jury Verdict The Hightail Carbon saddle is the latest creation from WTB. The light but exceptionally robust saddle has been optimised for the best possible wheel clearance. This allows manufacturers to make compact rear frames, twinned with using bigger wheels and long-travel suspension. WTB proves it has a good feeling for the future because the upcoming ‘Plus’ wheel sizes will make tyre clearance a big issue. In order to achieve this, the Hightail saddle is much shorter at the rear end than all current models. Thanks to the well-designed form you won’t notice this when riding, but you will appreciate the increased room to maneuver on the descents.

Jury Verdict The Guide RSC brakes are evolution and revolution all in one: SRAM continues to use the existing Avid X.0 Trail caliper, but has completely re-engineered the brake lever – and with great success! The Guide impresses with solid, constant power, good reliability, and a pleasantly defined bite point which allows for great modulation of the available power. The jury agreed wholeheartedly with SRAM’s declared aim of building the best and most reliable brake, not just the lightest. These properties reward us with fun on the trails and are much more important than saving the last few grams. But it’s still great that the Guide has ended up pleasantly light.
