Review: X-Fusion HILO SL – Dropper Seatpost

The Hilo SL represents the high-end model in the X-Fusion dropper seatpost range, featuring 125 mm of infinitely adjustable travel.

At first it looks like the post will offer a very low standover with just a 20 mm ring on the lower housing. However, on closer inspection, those hoping for a nominal standover height will be disappointed: the last 25 mm of upper post cannot be lowered, which in combination with a rather high saddle clamp, makes it one of the taller models.

Actuation is controlled via a pretty large lever on the handlebar. Similar to the Forca, positioning it in a busy cockpit is not easy. Nevertheless, it can also be turned in any direction and requires little effort to trigger the post. An adjuster to fine-tune the cable tension is mounted directly to the lever. Once set up, the post extends and lowers smoothly. Using the recommended pressure of twenty PSI, we would have appreciated a faster extension from the post. A higher pressure improved the speed. Aside from that, there was nothing else wrong with the Hilo SL – it always clamped reliably and there was no play to be found at any time. With a weight of 576 grams, it is also one of the lighter seatposts.
