Grouptest Trailbikes: Alutech Teibun 1.0 V1
The Alutech Teibun could be described as an Alutech Fanes after a face lift, provided with all the 2014 must-have implants by Jürgen Schlender. For example, it has 27.5” wheels as well as a carbon rear end, and is compatible with Stealth dropper posts.
On the Teibun the rider takes up a slightly stretched but comfortable position. The stiff back end refuses to bob even when standing, and as a result we didn’t need to touch the lever on the RockShox Monarch shock. It is seriously quick on the climbs! Gear-changing duties are handled efficiently by the SRAM X7 / X9 mix. Care is needed in the bottom bracket area where the two cables can rub against one of the chainrings and get damaged.
On the descent, the Teibun can change direction enthusiastically without losing stability. The rider stands centrally on the bike, is always in control, and can let the bike rip with impunity. The RockShox Revelation makes a good impression. Like the Pike, it remains high in its travel in steep terrain or when braking. The bike’s geometry is thus maintained, and the rider doesn’t feel like he is too far forward and in danger of going over the bars.
We have to say that the rear shock wasn’t perfect. It is somewhat overdamped and feels like it provides less travel than the 156mm claimed by Alutech. This is good for those who have an active riding style, as the back end can use the energy directly for jumping over bumps in the trail, for example. At faster speeds on rough ground it saps strength a little because the rear ramps up too soon and transfers hits to the rider. The 27.5” wheels, extremely wide bars, and powerful X7 brakes give the rider a feeling of confidence and security.
Conclusion:
The Alutech Teibun accelerates quickly, has good geometry and the parts are solid. The excessive damping at the rear and the cable routing near the bottom bracket spoil the overall picture a little.
