A Classic Trail Tire revived – Introducing the new ONZA PORCUPINE

ONZA have revived an old classic! After a 30 year hiatus, ONZA have announced the return of their acclaimed PORCUPINE trail tire. We have all the most important info for you right here!

the new onza porcupine is a mixed-condition trail tire

According to ONZA, the new PORCUPINE fits bang in the middle of their current range of tires. It was designed as a “modern, open, and easy-rolling” all-round tire designed for all-mountain and trail riding in mixed conditions. The placement of the tread lugs pays homage to the original PORCUPINE from 30 years ago, and ONZA’s colour options are another throwback to the 90s. The PORCUPINE will be available with both black and limited-edition white tread colours. A tan sidewall option will also be available.

It may not be everyone’s taste…
…but the option to run white tires is available if you want.

Casings, compounds and sizes of the new ONZA PORCUPINE

The new PORCUPINE comes with ONZA’s Trail Casing (TRC), which was formerly known as the Freeride Casing. The TRC is a Single Ply casing with Nylon sidewall protection and should, according to ONZA, blend a moderate weight with good puncture protection. ONZA are using a new compound formula that promises more grip and improved rolling resistance. The centre tread is made of harder 60a rubber, whilst the side knobs are made of a tackier 45a compound.

ONZA will be offering the new PORCUPINE in both 27.5” and 29” sizes. Tire widths of 2.4” and 2.6” are available for both wheel sizes. Trail Casing PORCUPINEs will be available very soon in both full black and tan sidewall options, at a cost of €54.90 to €64.90 depending on size. The white tread will be a limited edition, and only available in 27.5×2.4” and 29×2.4”. ONZA told us that Gravity-Casing and Soft Compound PORCUPINEs are in the works too.

The new ONZA PORCUPINE looks like it could be a reliable tire for trail riding in a variety of conditions. We are looking forward to giving it a proper test to see if it can live up to the original PORCUPINE’s heritage!
