Athletes racing at the highest level of the sport provide the most demanding proving ground for Castelli. When RCS Sport contacted Castelli to supply the Dubai Tour leaders’ jerseys, the race organizers said they wanted a lightweight and next-to-nothing jersey for hot desert temperatures, with no fabric flapping in the wind when the peloton headed into dusty crosswind sections. The riders of Team Garmin-Sharp have been reaping the lightweight aero benefits of the Climbers Jersey for more than two years, so it wasn’t difficult to pick the right innovative product model from our Speed Research Unit. Super light weight and fast drying Strada Light 3D mesh. The Climbers Jersey is designed for racing in the mountains or in hot weather. Lasse Norman Hansen is a new signing for Team Garmin-Sharp in 2014. He comes from a very promising under-23 career which also included a gold medal at the London Olympics in track omnium. We are really excited to see what Lasse can do in 2014, he’s off to a great start finishing 3rd overall at Dubai Tour! What is your first memory involving a bicycle? That would be riding a way-too-small bicycle around in the back yard. It was the bike that I got too big for, that’s the first bike I remember having fun on. What got you started into racing? I started riding my school bike on longer rides. My uncle was a director of a firm that makes bicycles. He gave me one and told me to start riding it seriously. He said for fun but then I got into it and it went from there. What is your favorite type of race? I really don’t know — I have a few favorites. Of course I like racing on the track. The shorter track races that are really intense. And on the road I like the really tough races with short, steep climbs and cobblestones. Lasse riding to ...

RCS Sport, which also organizes the Giro d’Italia, did a fantastic job this year to help organize and develop the Dubai Tour. RCS Sport has signed a three-year agreement with the Dubai Sports Council and are considering taking the course into the expansive desert country beyond Dubai’s spectacular urban landscape. Desert winds howl, split the peloton along the long, open highway as sand blasts the riders and their gear. Here are some of our favorite images from this years race. Taylor Phinney (BMC Racing) won the inaugural edition of the Dubai Tour on Saturday after successfully defending the race lead from his opening time trial stage win. Phinney’s teammate Steven Cummings came into second place, 15 seconds behind, while the Danish Olympic Champion (Omnium) on Team Garmin Sharp, Lasse Norman Hansen, was third 17 seconds behind. “When we received the proposal for the Dubai Tour, we said, ‘Why not?’ After all, Dubai hosts many world-class events, and cycling is a prestigious addition to the list,” Saeed Hareb, chairman of the organizing committee, said. “We are all happy with what we saw. It brought people out onto the streets. We hope to grow the event next year.” Everybody seemed to like what they saw in the first edition of the Dubai Tour, especially local sheiks underwriting the four-day race.
