Throw out everything you think you know about cycling jackets and redesign the way a jacket should be made. Or possibly how they’ll all be made in a few years when everyone else follows our lead once again. With the Alpha, we’re introducing several new techniques and fabrics to construct a lightweight, cool and cold weather jacket. We’ve focused on two perennial problems with cycling jackets and wind jerseys. First is ventilation. With our latest fabrics we can essentially build a winter jacket that will keep you warm in all but the most extreme conditions with just a base layer underneath. But when you open the front zipper you get a blast of cold air at the top of your chest, while the rest of your body remains too hot.   OBSESSION WITH COMFORT In Alpha we’ve detached the insulation layer from the windproof layer so that you can open the windproof layer to let air in to ventilate and help evaporate moisture. Riding these pieces shows how effective it is at regulating temperature and comfort while helping to keep you drier. The second focus area is all the openings. At the waist we have a new fabric and construction that ...

Riding bikes – especially if in a beautiful environment and/or with a good community – can be one of the most pleasant activities one can imagine. The longer the ride, the more one will appreciate a well-fitting, fashionable and functional kit. Be it ‘just’ for a short after work spin, a weekend king stage or for a Granfondo season highlight. If you ride on a regular basis, it’s only natural having a wider variety of pieces to choose from. It’s a relief to know having the right stuff for every kind of situation or weather. My new favourite kit for a summery ride is the Climber’s Jersey and Inferno Bibshort. I even found myself wearing it in cooler conditions, as we were not blessed with sunshine and warmth this May and early June. The fit for both pieces is exceptional and the combo is dedicated to deal with hot weather. Let’s get into detail. Climber’s Jersey: The Climber’s Jersey was originally designed based on needs of Team Garmin Sharp. The riders wanted a superlight jersey for hot conditions. The team is one of castelli’s test fields and it’s only natural, that most innovations find their way into the regular collection ...

Athletes racing at the highest level of the sport provide the most demanding proving ground for Castelli. When RCS Sport contacted Castelli to supply the Dubai Tour leaders’ jerseys, the race organizers said they wanted a lightweight and next-to-nothing jersey for hot desert temperatures, with no fabric flapping in the wind when the peloton headed into dusty crosswind sections. The riders of Team Garmin-Sharp have been reaping the lightweight aero benefits of the Climbers Jersey for more than two years, so it wasn’t difficult to pick the right innovative product model from our Speed Research Unit. Super light weight and fast drying Strada Light 3D mesh. The Climbers Jersey is designed for racing in the mountains or in hot weather. The jersey is made from our super-lightweight Strada Light 3D mesh and an aero Velocity fabric, and it’s cut to hug the torso and eliminate any excess fabric flapping when battling the wind. It’s 139 grams of next to nothing, it’s our quickest-drying jersey ever, and it saves 8 watts at 40 km/h compared to a standard cycling jersey. One of the jersey’s advantages is that it absorbs hardly any water. After all, what good would a lightweight jersey be ...
