BERGAMONT Contrail C MGN
Jury Verdict
“MGN“ stands for “Mehr Geht Nicht“ or “More Isn’t Possible” at Bergamont, indicating that the
model is the very best in its category for the Hamburg bike brand. No surprise then that the
Contrail C MGN leaves no room for upgrading. The combination of a proven Bosch motor, the
well-executed geometry, and the big 29” wheels lend the Bergamont an impressive ride quality.
Even on technically demanding terrain, the bike tackles climbs with playful ease. Visually the
bike strongly resembles its non-motorised namesake, whilst on descents it is always pleasantly
agile and easy to control. The suspension has good end-progression and easily tackles big
impacts. An all-round well executed bike.
PIVOT Mach 4 Carbon
Jury Verdict
“Performance re-defined“ is the slogan on the Pivot Cycles website, and this has clearly been
achieved with the latest evolution of the American Mach 4 Carbon. This bike brings together
maximum efficiency, confidence, and fun in a previously unheard-of manner.
The light carbon-fibre frame is fitted with a DW-link rear suspension system boasting 115mm
of fully active travel whose characteristics can be noticeably influenced by adapting the level of
sag. Classic XC race bikes are not suitable for many consumers, as their handling and spec are
not compatible with everyday riding. The Mach 4 manages to balance these conflicting needs
and represents a new generation of XC bikes – it combines excellent trail performance with
breathtaking forward momentum. Thanks to clever details like battery integration for electronic
components, the Pivot is also ready and waiting for the next big evolution.
LIV Lust 1
Jury Verdict
Liv, the newly established women’s bike brand from Giant, rocks! Huge attention to detail
has been made by the predominantly female engineering team and the result is innovative,
versatile products which lead the way in the male-dominated bike industry. Whether you’re
looking for a city bike or the next offroad adventure, every female biker will find the right
bike and perfectly chosen accessories from the range. But Liv isn’t just about nice colour
co-ordination! High functionality and well-executed details are the focus of the engineers.
The Liv Lust 1 offers huge versatility and a well-balanced combination of uphill and downhill
performance. The low standover and bottom bracket height, together with 27.5” wheels, give the
bike plenty of trail confidence even with just 100mm of suspension travel.
LAPIERRE Zesty TR 829
Jury Verdict
Lapierre pushes the theme of efficiency to a new level with the Zesty TR 829: the re-
engineered, fully automated E:i shock auto-system adjusts the rear suspension automatically
to the terrain in fractions of a second. The 120mm of rear travel is always perfectly adjusted
to the trail, and together with the 29” wheels create a high degree of traction and control. The
classy carbon-fibre frame with its angular tube shapes isn’t just a good looker, but also features
coherent design details such as the integrated downtube protector which perfectly blends
into the bike’s silhouette. Lapierre makes no compromises in the spec and fits parts suited to
maximum all-round riding performance. Together with the enormous 25 hour battery life of the
E:i shock auto-systems, nothing will come between you and epic adventures.
CANYON Lux CF 9.9 Team Oneby
Jury Verdict
The CANYON Lux CF is a lightening fast carbon race-bike which doesn’t just effortlessly tackle
steep climbs, but is also a heap of fun on technically demanding downhills.
The frame is optimised to minimise weight with a flex-pivot rear suspension system, and the
weight saving carries on through the carefully chosen and exclusive parts. The balanced, playful
character and perfect mix of forward propulsion and fun already convinced our experienced
magazine testers in our #012 group test. Details like the classy RS-1 inverted fork which visually
matches with the frame, the steerer tube integrated frame protector, and compatibility with
dropper seatposts underscore the wider range of use of the CANYON Lux CF.
