With the official start into the summer, our editorial team took the first rays of sunshine to strap the Ergon BA3 Superenduro on our back. As the name suggests, the backpack is especially produced for the ambitious trail-use and is not stingy with his special features. With a volume of 15liters (expandable to 17liters) the Superenduro is a compact mountain bike backpack for the areas All Mountain and Enduro.

In all the years I have ridden bikes I have never once tried out anything made in the the land of Ferrari, Ducati or Armani, so it was with some excitement that I arrived at the UKGE race in Hamsterley to pick up this, MDE 29er version of the tried and tested Carve model. The reason I was picking it up from UK Gravity Enduro race being that Steve Parr (race organiser) also brings the MDE brand into the UK. In the week prior to this race Steve had rang to inform me it would be there “race on it if you want kid, it’s a test bike kitted out with the UK MDE team components after all” fair enough I thought, you’re on! The week before saw me looking through the stats on MDE’s website, 341mm BB height and a 1138mm wheel base sounded good, but I have to admit that after getting used to the slack 65% head angle on my GT the idea of a 70 degree HA was a bit of a concern.

These little beauties were sent to me from the guys at Hope with a 183mm front rotor and 160mm rear. I have been running the GT with the Formula The One set-up. The Formulas work great, but I have had issues every time I’v had to change the pads, as even with the adjusters wound right off, I had to take fluid out to fit the pads, then once pads were worn, they then needed bleeding! I always used to run Hopes in the old days of 90’s DH races, in the days when Hope really seemed to have the niche market tied up. Nowadays lots of other manufacturers have stepped up their game and competition is vast, so I wanted to test the latest Hope to see if this Great British firm can still cut the mustard in the world of stopping bike momentum!
