BRIT BITS: Mucky Nutz – Bender Fender
Mucky Nuts has been around as a UK company with various types of guards to keep the proverbial shite from ones face, arse, shock and fork seals since 2009. They have the usual story of being made as a bit of a hobby at first, to now becoming a world exporting brand, with many a DH and Enduro rider sporting these simple low cost guards, and them being seen all over the UK.
BRIT BITS: ALL TORQ performance nutrition
Enduro Mag’s Jim Buchanan hooked up with local buddy, Ben Price (fully recovered after his excellent 6th place in the Trans Savoie race) Ben is from TORQ Fitness and Jim met up with him to talk, or should I say Torq, about their latest products and how they came to be one of the market leaders in all things sports’ nutrition….
BRIT BITS: Middleburn – Cable Oilers in different colours
Middleburn have been going as a British company now for over 20 years, making high-end precision components, including cranks, chainrings and hubs. It would seem nowadays, especially with top specked Enduro bikes, that full length outer is pretty much the norm for gear and some dropper seat cables. The problem with full length outer is it can’t ever be cleaned without replacing the inner and as the more outer on inner creates more friction and more places for crap to build up, cables have to be replaced quite often. This task can be a bit of an unnecessary pain, especially in winter. These little gems, Middleburn’s cable oilers, extend the life of your inner and outer cable by a nautical mile. You split your outer cable half way and add one of these to the middle. Once on, you just peel back the small rubber o-ring to reveal a WD40 sized hole (or other spray oils with a tube) insert the tube and give your cable a spray, you will see the lube come out either end of the outer cable along with any crap that has built up inside, simply genius! They come in 4mm or 5mm colours are silver, black, red, blue or gold, they weigh 1 gramme and are mega easy to install.
BRIT BITS: Endura Eyewear – Masai Glasses
Brit company Endura, based up in bonny Scotland, founded in Edinburgh in 1992, has been at the fore-front of UK trail riding kit for some time now. They offer a massive range of Enduro clothing, stuff that really is designed to be comfy for long days in the saddle, and they have been doing this way before the word Enduro ventured into the MTB world!
Head To Head: Teva Links Vs FiveTen Impact 2′s
Lets start with a fact, the contact points on your bike define how you ride and wearing the wrong footwear will ruin your flow, full stop! Even in these product savvy days, it is amazing how many riders you see charging round on 2-3 grand bikes in a pair of cheap runners. Pedal manufacturers spend countless design hours testing and refining platform size, adjusting concave and getting the pins ‘just so’, all in the pursuit of the perfect connection between you and your bike. Anyone who has ridden on cheapy plastic pedals will know how they can make a great bike almost unridable at speed. If you are a flat pedal rider, a ‘relatively’ small investment in a decent pair of riding shoes can really improve your enjoyment of the trails. We have been testing two of the big players in the flat pedal specific shoe market for the last 3 months to see how they perform.
