Dialled Rides – tuning tips from the pro’s: Jared Graves
Welcome to Part 2 of our exciting new weekly feature, Dialled Rides, where we expose the mysteries of bike setup and reveal secrets from those at the pinnacle of the sport!! If you missed part 1 where we talked with the current Enduro World Series Champion, Jerome Clementz, you can find it here.
BRIT BITS: Hope Technology – R4 light
Its that time of year again, the nights are drawing in and for after work rides it is now essential to run some lights on your pride and joy. I had some Hope HID lights several years ago and was always impressed with their slick design and the fantastic aftermarket warranty service. I did however switch over to the cheap side last winter, deciding to go over to some cheap Chinese lights, you know, the ones that are all the same but have about a hundred different names on Ebay! I have to admit for the money their brightness was OK, they were quite industrial looking, with a bit of a pin-point beam, but when a fully charged battery died (after half an hour of riding) down one of my favourite downhill trails, my trust in them was somewhat destroyed.
Funky looking Goggles – 100% Accuri
Nowadays, in the sport of Enduro or for the speed-gaining uplift days, wether you choose half or full-face helmet, lots of riders still choose a trusty set of goggles. These funky looking goggles called the Accuri, come fresh from the guys at 100%. They are the mid-range model from 100% and come made with thicker foam for comfort and fit. They are made from urethene, meaning they are flexible and durable, and with their slightly more complex shape than the lower priced model they are able to fit real nice around Gonzo noses like mine! And with a 14mm wide strap they will take the abuse thrown at them.
BRIT BITS: High 5 Sports Nutrition – For beginner to pro
High 5 is a UK company, based over in Leicestershire, they have been going for years, and most people who compete or just ride at any level have heard of them. They sponsor loads of different discipline events over in the UK from XC running to DH and Enduro. They have so many types of product for different requirements in varying disciplines; energy, hydration, stimulants, after-sports, etc. Most impressive of all being an individual section of their website, explaining exactly what a racer would need to buy for our sport of Enduro. For a bit of background on them, here (in their words) is what they do:
BRIT BITS: Works Components Thick/Thin Chainring
Started originally by SRAM, the thick/thin, extended tooth design chainring seems all the rage at the moment, with several aftermarket manufacturers having a go at their own version to fit the standard four bolt cranks as well as the SRAM style cranks. This here thick/thin chainring was sent to me on test by Works Components, a UK company who design and manufacture all their products over in Cannock (West Midlands). They do a vast array of angleset headsets, as I have featured before, but this is one of their later products, just now having become available.
