BRIT BITS: Works Components Thick/Thin Chainring

image

Started originally by SRAM, the thick/thin, extended tooth design chainring seems all the rage at the moment, with several aftermarket manufacturers having a go at their own version to fit the standard four bolt cranks as well as the SRAM style cranks. This here thick/thin chainring was sent to me on test by Works Components, a UK company who design and manufacture all their products over in Cannock (West Midlands). They do a vast array of angleset headsets, as I have featured before, but this is one of their later products, just now having become available.

I have to admit I was very sceptical, thinking at least a top guide was minimum to keep that precious drive from the chain uninterrupted and to avoid the big racers no-no that is, the loss of the chain! Well I did actually run this with my previous Shimano XT block and XTR mech and I was definitely proven wrong, as with 2 weeks of full-on practice of Eastridge prior and during the UKGE event, I never lost the chain once at that, the roughest of tracks. This product is definitely ridden and rated!

They come in an array of colours and cost £35 – workscomponents.co.uk
