Pokemon Go – the most dangerous app for mountain bikers?
While you probably can’t imagine anything better than getting out on a ride right now, there’s a large chunk of the world’s population – particularly in America – who are likely to vehemently disagree. Once happy mountain bikers are reportedly spending more time than ever outside, although their experience has taken an odd turn. We’ve investigated this strange phenomenon – and almost got run over in the process.
Behind the Scenes at the Emerald Enduro
Have you ever wondered what goes into running an Enduro World Series? Well 7 stages, with 14 kilometres of course tape, 9000 spectators, 120 volunteers, 400 racers and over 30,000 litres of water for the bike wash. It takes this, and a little more to run the Emerald Enduro!
Pro Bike Check: Ruaridh Cunningham’s Trek Slash 9.8
Ruaridh Cunningham isn’t a name that’s largely associated with enduro racing but in the two EWS he has competed in, the 2007 junior downhill world champ sauntered away with a 7th and 5th place. Whilst he competes at the world cups for Unior Tools Team aboard his stealthy Trek Session, there is an equally rapid looking Trek Slash he uses to train and race the odd enduro on, which has an intriguing setup not too dissimilar to that of his downhill rig:

As more and more people around the world take up the hobby of mountain biking, it gives extra opportunities for folk to find work as mountain bike leaders, guides and skills coaches. The Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme (M.I.A.S) started in the UK, but is starting to be recognised across Europe and the world as a relevant qualification. We sent Jim along to take part in the two-day course to becoming a guide and obtaining his ticket as a leader and see what it was all about.
