Farrar nabs his first Tour de France stage.

farrarAnother fantastic day for the Garmin-Cervelo. Tyler Farrar took the team another step up with yesterdays’s stage win after the team time trial win on Sunday. Garmin-Cervélo played the waiting game and once HTC had lead the race to the final act the Argyle’s with the maillot jaune took over piloting their man Farrar to a perfect stage victory on the 4th of July.

Garmin-Cervélo could hardly have written a better script to the opening days of the Tour de France. With Thor Hushovd in yellow thanks to the victory on Sunday’s team time trial, the Norwegian’s sprinter made the lead-out of Tyler Farrar to take his first TdF stage win.

“It makes it even more special to win today,” Farrar said. “The team was just perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better lead-out and equipment.

Yesterday, Farrar was wearing Castelli’s lightest jersey in existence for hot weather racing.

“The climber jersey is the best jersey i ever had. It fit perfectly on me and fit almost the same like the aero jersey, but it is much cooler”. Farrar said to Castelli’s Racing Performance Director, Andrea Peron.

The climbers jersey is designed to not only be light but also aero with minimal sacrifices in aerodynamics that becomes more important as the speeds go up towards 70 km/h. Its light weight makes it cooler for hot weather racing while the fabric absorb virtually no moisture so the weight savings multiply in the most extreme conditions.

Farrar is the second U.S. rider to win a stage in all three Grand Tours, behind teammate David Zabriskie. He also becomes the first U.S. rider to win a Tour stage on the Fourth of July.
