Tick follows tock, the minute hand creeps slowly round the dial… 5:30 pm is almost here. Important notes on the computer screen have long since blurred into one, and concentration has shifted to plotting the fastest way home: how will I avoid the traffic, and what will I need? Bike, helmet, gloves, winter shoes, lights – don’t forget lights! Who said it’s only the weekend when we can have fun? We are the 9 to 5 daydreamers, and it’s time to shred with some friends!

We’re surrounded on all sides: cactus of every shape and size aim their spears at our fragile skin. They stand tall like guardians of nature in this harsh terrain, showing this is a place for the hardy and well-defended. I like nature… I just don’t like it touching, biting, stinging or stabbing me. Call me crazy if you like, but that is not a close encounter I want!

Forget the clichés and preconceived ideas about wheel sizes, because that mentality would lead you to presume that a 29+ like the Trek Stache 9.8 must be completely unrideable, nothing but a wallowing fat bike. But jump on this Trek with an open mind and you’ll be blown away by the broadened horizons that it presents.

Every time we start a bike test we ask, “Who has this bike been designed for?” Usually we get a fairly good understanding just by glancing at the bike, its spec, and the geometry figures – but that didn’t work with the Fuji Auric. We scratched our heads a bit, then cracked on with the bike test.
