Will a longer and slacker bike make you a better rider?
Over the last few years there has been a geometry coup going on in enduro bike design, with marketing departments across the industry clamouring to shout their message the loudest – “To go fast, you need long and slack.” The voices were so strong that many riders went out to their bike sheds armed with tape measures, and after some quick calculations burst out shouting, “That’s why I cannot get STRAVA KOMs! It’s because my bike is 15 mm too short!”
Pro Bike Check: Sam Hill’s Nukeproof Mega 27.5
Sam Hill needs no introduction, he has been at the top of the DH circuit forever and is now smashing through the EWS top dogs! He has the cornering skills of a cat running on velcro, and when it comes to handling, he’s still the rider by which all other are judged. His Nukeproof Mega 27.5 is no less spectacular, featuring what must be the coolest paint job on the circuit. We caught him at Finale to take a look.
The Interview: Troy Lee talks good old days and plans for the future
There are certain brands in life that stand out from the crowd, they are not desperately trying to be different, they just are different, oozing with bling and that “factory” feel; one of these brands is definitely Troy Lee Designs. Since back in the day when downhill bike’s suspension travel was measured in inches and most of the top teams were running rebadged Intense bikes, Troy Lee was THE brand of clothing and helmets we all aspired to own. Back then and still now Troy Lee sports its own unique look from subtle and cool to wild and racy! We had the chance to meet Troy Lee himself to find out more about his story.
Hunting trails: Flow trails, reindeer burgers, and airtime with Matt Hunter
The road ahead of us is hazy, the sun beating down mercilessly onto the dusty hood, streaming in through the cracked windscreen of Matt’s Toyota pickup. We turn into a residential area and make a sudden U-turn. Matt pulls up on the curb. To our left are newly built detached houses with shiny, polished SUVs on their driveways. To our right is the trailhead of one of the greatest trails that’s about to top my list of greatest-ever rides.
Downhill vs. Enduro – we follow Martin Maes and GT Factory Racing
The downhill / enduro comparison has fuelled many an internet forum fire, rather amusingly to us! How many times have you heard or read the words ‘enduro is for / pussies / washed up downhill racers / insert appropriate’ being bleated out by armchair experts in the darkest corners of the internet abyss? We join Martin Maes and the GT Factory Racing team to find out more.
