Can you win a cross country race in the downhills? Nino Schurter definitely can. On every lap he could gain some seconds on eternal rival Julien Absalon, that had to push hard to close the gap, every time. On the last lap Nino manages to keep the 10 seconds advantage and crosses the line as the 2015 XC world champion.

An extremely tough race at 1900 meters altitude, with lots of wet and rooty sections. Even Manuel Fumic (fourth behind Cink) crashed twice, but managed to fight for the bronze medal until the end. One of the big favourites, Kulhavy, quit the race at the beginning of the first lap: too much pain in his ribs after a crash during training.
Pauline Ferrand Prevot wins the women race in front of Irina Kalentyeva (Rus) and Yana Belomoina (Ukr). Incredible if you think that the French already won the cyclocross and the road world UCI championships. Jolanda Neff out of the games because of a cold. The young Swiss rider won the UCI world cup two weeks ago and she will have the opportunity to fight for the rainbow jersey in the next years again.
Stay tuned for the gallery.
