YT Industries Jeffsy 27 launched
YT Industries is perceived by many as a freeride/gravity oriented brand, so it surprised a lot of riders when they dropped a 29er trail bike last year. With slack angles, short chainstays, and progressive suspension, Mtbr loved it. In fact, after riding our test rig, one of our reviewers went out and bought one. So how do you follow up a killer bike? You give it a little sibling because choice is never a bad thing. Or as CEO Markus Flossmann puts it, “When choosing the right wheel size for you, your personal preferences, your riding style, and of course the terrain you ride all play an important role in the decision. Everybody should decide for themselves which wheel size is more appropriate for them. At the end of the day, it’s not about numbers but about how much fun you’re having on your bike.”
Built along the same lines as its bigger wheeled sibling, the 27.5 version is ready to boogie both uphill and down. It uses the brand’s V4L suspension layout but receives a 10mm boost in travel. This extra bit of suspension is claimed to keep the bike from getting hung up on rougher terrain.
Like the 29er, the new Jeffsy gets a flip chip. In the low setting, the bike has a 66.9-degree head angle and 15mm bottom bracket drop. For more all-around versatility, the head angle can be steepened to 67.6 degrees, which also steepens the effective seat tube angle by around a half degree to 75.3.
The bike will be available in both carbon and alloy versions. The carbon frame has a claimed weight of 2300 grams. The alloy version comes in at 2900 grams, or about three-quarters of a pound more.
The carbon version will ship in four versions. Prices start at $3999 for a 2x Shimano XT or 1x SRAM X1 kit, and tops out at $5599 for the top tier model. The alloy models start at $2599.
