Ahead of its time? Or bad idea?

From the sport’s beginning, downhill mountain bike racing has been an epicenter of technological development for all fat tire bikes. The NORBA and World Cup courses of years past were the ultimate proving ground for frame and suspension designs. Some were wild successes, others abject failures. And others were just plain weird. In this pair of videos from The Pro’s Closet Museum Series, we go back in time with Myles Rockwell, 2000 world downhill champion and one of the most exciting racers of his time.

First up is Rockwell’s 1998 Cannondale Fulcrum a bike so unique (and a little odd) it must be seen to be believed.

In video No. 2 we see the bike “Smyles” won his world title on, a 2000 Giant ATX One DH bike. Make sure you check out the brake rotors and “wood” derailleur.
