Fat bikes were originally developed for sandy or snowy terrain where a normal bike would be unrideable. But we’ve recently seen them cropping up at our local trailhead. So how do they do on regular trails? (click to enlarge)
Fat bikes are kind of ridiculous. With their oversized tires and goofy proportions, they look like a bloated caricature of a modern mountain bike. Yet it’s these very characteristics that enable them to conquer terrain that would be unrideable on just about any other vehicle (bike or otherwise).
