Video: A retrospective of new Mtbr how-to contributor Jeff Lenosky
Trials, urban freeride, cross country, enduro racing—Jeff Lenosky does a little bit of everything on a mountain bike, and now he’ll contribute a monthly how-to column on Mtbr starting tomorrow.
Mountain bike legend Jeff Lenosky joins the Mtbr staff tomorrow as a contributor with the first of his monthly how-to articles designed to help make you a better rider. Starting out as a BMXer, the New Jersey native eventually graduated to mountain bikes and began riding observed trials—a highly specialized segment of the sport that emphasizes handling skills and balance, requiring competitors to ride, bounce and cajole their bikes over obstacles without putting a foot down.

In this clip, Lenosky and fellow mountain bike great Fabian Barel fly into Spruce Lake near Whistler, British Columbia for a little shred session and end up in a row boat.
Lenosky eventually melded his trials riding with traditional mountain biking, spearheading a movement that took the sport into the city, giving birth to urban freeriding. In 2001, he appeared in the mountain bike film New World Disorder II – Fat Tire Fury and used the concrete jungle of New York City as his “forest.” Lenosky would go on to appear in several more films in the series.

When you’re Jeff Lenosky, everything is a trail, as he proved in his segment of the mountain bike film New World Disorder 7- Flying High Again.
All the while, Lenosky has continued to rack up hundreds of in-person appearances doing his trials show at bike shops, events and on television programs—his positive demeanor and trials’ demonstrative nature making perfect fodder for news broadcasts.

If Jeff Lenosky can explain what mountain biking is all about in three minutes, just imagine what his column here will do for your riding each month.
These clips give you a glimpse into Lenosky’s skill as both a rider and ambassador for the sport, not to mention his wide-ranging skill on a bike. It’s no wonder sponsors like Mavic, Giant, Clif Bar, Shimano, X-Fusion, Native Eyewear, Pro Gold Lube, MRP and Ergon have lined up have him represent their brands.

Jeff is an expert at not only riding, but also overcoming morning show schmaltz. Here he shows the hosts of Vancouver’s Urban Rush what’s up.
