A few days ago, mountain bikers learned of the shocking death of pro downhiller Steve Smith, 26, who was killed in an enduro motorcycle accident Tuesday, May 10. The Vancouver-based Smith was one of Canada’s best pro cyclists, with an impressive collection of titles including the overall win in the downhill World Cup series in 2013.

Few details are known about the circumstances around his death which occured while Steve was riding a motorcycle in his hometown of Nanaimo, British Columbia. He sustained extensive brain injuries, according to reports, and passed away yesterday afternoon surrounded by friends and family.
