Review: SixSixOne Rage Hard Kneepad
It used to be you either climbed on your mountain bike or you sent it. These days, you don’t have to pick. Modern bikes are capable of doing it all. This trend has resulted in a number of versatile new lightweight products, but what about when you want to go big?
On those days, we’ve been wearing the new Rage and Rage Hard kneepads from SixSixOne. These DH rated pads are the spiritual successors to the iconic Kyle Strait model, but have been updated with modern materials for better performance.
This additional hard cap helps the Rage kneepad slide more easily over rocks. This extra protection costs $5 more than the regular soft shell version.
Both padsets share the same chassis, but the Hard version features an external hard cap for additional protection. It’s also intended to allow the pad to slide more easily over rocks — or in the skate park.
Shock absorption duties are performed by a pliable padset that extends the length of the knee and is covered by Kevlar. Additional layers of EVA foam wrapped in a perforated mesh offer side impact protection.
