Sea Otter: Xpedo’s new GFX clipless DH and CXR cross-specific pedals
Although not as well known as other pedal makers, Xpedo has been making pedals for more than 30 years and they are gaining in popularity. Their flat pedals are selling well, but they also have offerings for cross, XC and road cyclists (including a new road model with built-in power meter sensors). Here is a close-up look at their new GFX clipless DH pedals and their new CXR cross-specific pedals.
Xpedo GFX – clipless DH pedal
The GFX is brand new for 2015 and it is the first clipless DH model for Xpedo. It has a latitude entry system spring engagement so the front claw points up and is easy to find. It has a wide platform with 4 pins per side. They are SPD compatible and use 3 oversized bearings. The body is CNC’d 6061 aluminum body and the GFX weighs approximately 450 grams a set. Retail is $129 and they will be available this fall. Available colors will be black, blue, and orange.
CXR – new cross-specific pedals
The CXR is a cross-specific pedal with the weight distribution designed so it hangs in a position that is easier to find. The CXR has a large front claw to maximize easy entry under wet or muddy conditions. The body 6061 forged aluminum and the spindle is cromoly. It uses 3 cartridge bearings and approximate weight is 295 grams per pair.
We talked to Xpedo’s Brand Manager, Ken Yamakoshi who explained, “The CXR is designed for the cross rider/racer or gravel grinder who is looking for a lightweight, strong and durable pedal at an affordable price.” The retail of the Xpedo CXR is $109 and this pedal is available now.
