Sea Otter: Crankbrothers launching custom color program
Soon you’ll be able to get your Crankbrothers pedals your way, at least when it comes to color. First launched at the Sea Otter Classic, the custom program allows consumers to choose from about a dozen colors. Pedal choice includes Eggbeaters and Candy, and you can mix and match the color of the pedal body, retention spring and end cap.
After Sea Otter, the program was set to be introduced at Crankbrothers new retail space in Southern California, and then launched nationwide through its website sometime in mid-summer.
“We’re in the process of building an easy-to-use app on our website that allows the consumer to put together any combination,” explained company sales director Andy Hilliard of a program that includes a $25 up-charge for the customization. “You’ll also be able to change some of the pedal components if you want.”
Ship time will be about a week once an order is placed, added Hilliard, who noted that among the most popular color-combo choices at Sea Otter were red-blue-silver USA-themed pedals.
“This program gives you the ability to be creative and do something different than what you get right out of the box,” said Hilliard. “It’s something we as a company had been talking about for years, and finally with the opening of our new retail space we decided it was time to make it happen.”
Crankbrothers has also launched a new charitable giveback program. Dubbed Crankbrothers for Others (#cb4other), the initiative is a partnership with the company’s top sponsored athletes and will support their chosen bike-related causes. Crankbrothers will donate $100 each time a participating athletes wears the Crankbrothers tattoo on their leg when they race. The amount doubles for race wins.
“We’re also working with the athletes to help them incentivize their fan base to get involved and donate as well,” explained Kellen Trachy, Crankbrothers’ global marketing manager. “It will all be updated in real time on our website. We want it to be competitive between the athletes as to who raises the most money.”
Participating athletes include a who’s who of the bike racing world, from gravity greats such as Greg Minnaar and Cedric Gracia, to XC racers Adam Craig and Carl Decker, to reigning U.S. national cyclocross champion Jeremy Powers.
“It’s a way for these athletes to give back to the community that has given so much to them,” added Trachy. “We’re all really excited about the program.”
