Santa Cruz Bronson damaged by ax up for sale
The ax doesn’t lie.
We don’t know the whole story but this caught our attention today. A mountain biker from central New Jersey put his beautiful green carbon fiber Santa Cruz Bronson up for sale on Craigslist. You can see the full ad here.

The thing is the frame is damaged. No, it wasn’t involved in a Red Bull Rampage style crash. It wasn’t driven into a low garage door. And it didn’t fall out of a bike rack and get run over by a semi-truck. The ad says the frame was destroyed by, “A crazy, ax-wielding girlfriend.”
The frame was targeted and the attacker did not miss.
It’s easy to suspect a hoax but looking at the detailed photographs closely, the story sounds legitimate. The strikes look like they were inflicted with a big ax. And the repeated blows indicate wrath and fury.
Now we’ve seen stories of where an infuriated partner destroys the subject’s most prized possession, usually a sports car or truck. But this is the first time we’ve seen such brutality taken out on a bike.
The seatstay did not escape.
Santa Cruz Bicycles has an incredible warranty policy. We’re curious how they would handle this one. Any guesses?
The good news is this is nowhere as bad as the Lorena Bobbitt atrocity that occurred many years ago. That one set the bar high and is the stuff of legend, or nightmare. Details of the sordid affair are here.
