Dre Hestler captures one advantage of a Rocky Mountain e-bike in the life of a very fit but very busy father with limited, precious time to spend on the trails.

Rocky Mountain announced a few interesting things in their e-bike offerings. First, there is a new model called the Instinct with less travel at 140mm front and rear. This complements the Altitude with 160mm.

Next the platform is now available in 29er and aluminum versions. 29er allows better rolling and traction of the big wheel. There is a huge variety of tire choices as well, all the way to 2.6. Aluminum gets the cost down all the way to $5299 without much compromise. The weight is higher by a couple pounds but that is negated on climbs by the pedal assist.

And finally, the bikes are now going to be available in the US. The Altitude Powerplay was a desireable bike indeed for some but it was not attainable in the US, especially with dealer support. Now, the gates are open.
