Renthal goes 35mm with full line of bars and stems
35mm stems and handlebars are now standard issue on most new mountain bikes, so Renthal has updated their entire product line of bars and stems to follow suit (click to enlarge).
Mountain bikes have improved drastically over the past few years and most of that progress has come from improvements to geometry and suspension. But not all change has made a ton of sense. Take 35mm handlebars and stems, which have left us scratching our heads. But whether or not the industry needed 35mm bars is besides the point, because this diameter is now all but standard issue on virtually all new mountain bikes.

The widespread acceptance of this standard has resulted in compatibility issues with aftermarket handlebars and stems, which are in large part only available in the older 31.8mm diameter. Luckily for fans of Renthal, the brand is now releasing an entire range of 35mm components.
Renthal’s 35mm carbon handlebars offer the same ride quality and weight as their 31.8mm bars, but are 20mm wider. The new 35mm aluminum handlebar is significantly lighter (click to enlarge).
One complaint that was levied against early 35mm handlebars was how harsh they felt, so Renthal worked to match the flex characteristics and ride quality of their well loved 31.8mm bars. They claim their 35mm handlebars offer the same ride quality without sacrificing strength or durability and still maintaining similar weights.
The lone exception is their aluminum FatBar 35, which is now significantly lighter. The other major change is that the new 35mm handlebars are all 20mm wider than their 31.8 counterparts. For example the Fatbar 35 and Fatbar 35 Carbon are 800mm wide and the Fatbar Lite Carbon 35 is now 760mm.
