POC SPIN is new twist on MIPS-type safety
Current MTB helmet standards leave a lot to be desired. They’re designed to prevent our skulls from fracturing, but do little to address sub-concussive or rotational impacts.
If you want to learn more about helmet standards, check out Mtbr’s detailing on three things you need to know about helmet technology.
In recent years, manufacturers have taken matters into their own hands, integrating features such as dual density foams, multi-impact materials, and anti-rotational technologies.
Learn about six revolutionary new helmet technologies.
At the most recent SnowSports Industries America Snow Show, Sweden’s POC unveiled a new patent-pending technology that includes a rotational impact protection system called SPIN (short for Shearing Pad Inside). It relies on a series of strategically placed pads inside the helmet that sit directly against the user’s head. In a crash, they can shear in any direction to help deflect energy.
Currently, SPIN is only available in POC’s snow sports helmets, but we expect to see it carried over to the MTB product line sometime soon.
