Phoenix bicycle safety comics overly graphic?
Generally, I’m a huge fans of any program that helps to increase bicycle safety, but I’m not sure about the latest initiative by Phoenix. They recently spent $18,700 to create a series of comic books that is being distributed to elementary school students that advocates for improved bicycle safety by depicting some gruesome worst case scenarios.
While trying to encourage kids and parents to wear helmets and be aware of the dangers of the road, is showing someone being horribly disfigured or possibly paralyzed really the best approach? Regardless of how I may feel, the program has apparently been very successful. According to the AZ central, Phoenix is actually developing material for children as young as Kindergarten.
Do you think these gruesome comic books will help improve safety or will they scare kids off bikes?
