Orange Mountain Bikes making way to USA
Offering a wide range of bikes, from modern geometry hardtails to full-on downhill sleds, there is a new player in the U.S. market. Orange Mountain Bikes, already firmly established in the U.K., is coming to America. Its beautiful metal frames must be seen up-close to be truly appreciated. Mtbr got that chance thanks to owner, Ashley Ball, and Aventuron which brought its demo fleet of bikes to Sea Otter.
Hearing that a mountain bike company only offers alloy or steel frames is enough to make many look elsewhere. It was only after speaking with Orange team, that we learned what makes them special. Only one piece of tubing (for the seat tube) is used on the entire frame. The rest of the pieces are created from sheets of alloy, each one thickness appropriate for its application, then custom formed for optimal strength and welded together. Special attention is given to weight, but never at the expense of durability.
The brand’s other big focus is reliability, which is accomplished in part by minimizing pivots while keeping up with modern geometries and designing bikes to withstand the wet U.K. climate. Their full suspension bikes are all single pivot, with modern standards, angles and even internal cable routing. Most have boost hub spacing as well.
Bike types include cyclocross, hardtails, hardcore hardtails, and full suspension single-pivot offerings in multiple geometries with travel from 110mm-190mm.
