Nukeproof Horizon CL and CS clipless pedals debut
The new Nukeproof Horizon CL and CS clipless pedals were inspired by the Horizon flat pedal.
In 2015, Nukeproof dropped the Horizon flat pedal. Designed with input from DH racing star Sam Hill, they’ve been a hit with riders looking for an affordable high end platform with incredible grip.
You can lower or raise the pins to custom tailor grip.
Now, the U.K.-based brand is launching its first clipless pedal. It bears a striking similarity to the existing platform, as they share much of the same DNA. Both pedals share the same external platform design, design language, and axle configuration (sealed cartridge bearings and DU bushings).
The Horizon CS and CL were designed with input from team riders Mike Jones and Matti Lehikoinen.
The new pedals are available in two different sizes. The CL is larger and more gravity oriented. Nukeproof claims it weighs 526g stock or 430g with the optional Ti axle. The CS is aimed at the trail segment and uses a smaller profile platform that shaves nearly 100g. Claimed weight for the CS is 432g stock or 352g with a Ti axle. Both are priced at £99 (approximately $127) with a Cro-Mo axle or £187 ($234) for Ti.
The stock cleat has 4+ degrees of float, but an aftermarket version that retails for £10 ($12.50) nets you +8 degrees of float.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this pedal system is the dual engagement cleat. The front and rear of the cleat have ramped edges. When paired with spring-loaded front and rear bindings, you can engage the cleat from any direction. This system is unique to Nukeproof but is compatible with all SPDs. Press play to learn more.
