Niner RIP Goes Alloy
Carbon bikes offer incredible performance, but alloy bikes are softer on the wallet.
Plastic fantastic bikes offer incredible performance, but all that awesome comes at a cost. For those of who don’t pull in six figures, alloy bikes with a hint of carbon are by far the better buy.
That’s why Niner has chosen to release an alloy version of their recently launched RIP 9 RDO. In carbon, the base level model retails for $4,700 and comes equipped with an SLX drivetrain.
Suspension duties are handled by Niner’s phenomenal CVA platform.
The RIP alloy features a similar build kit but retails for roughly a grand less. There’s no denying that carbon is lighter and offers an improved ride feel, but a thousand bucks buys a whole lot of adventures and beer…..
The RIP 9 shares the same geo as the RIP 9 RDO. It will be available in four sizes: S/M/L/XL.
Both the alloy and carbon models share the same shreddy geometry, 150mm of rear travel, and the ability to switch between 29” and 27.5+ wheels. You also get a proper threaded BB, Boost spacing, and clearance for up to a 29” x 2.5” tire.

The main spec difference between the plus and 29” version is fork travel and wheelset.
There will be two different build kits available at launch. The 29” model comes with a 160mm Lyric, KS dropper, Monarch Debonair, and SLX kit. Retail is $3,500. For an additional $300, you can get the plus version. This build is virtually identical, except fork travel goes up by 10mm, and you get a Stan’s wheelset.
