New Dualocity Dual Chamber Hydration Reservoir Carries Both Electrolytes and Water
I just received some information from a company called Mazama Designs (a small company out of Bend, OR) about a cool looking dual hydration reservoir that allows you to carry your energy drink mix and water all in one bladder. Called the Dualocity, the reservoir features two side-by-side bladders that contain 30 ounces of fluid each. There are two separate tubes and bite valves, one for each side.
The CEO of Mazama Designs, Matt Hoskins explains his new product, “I’ve had a number of people over the years ask me about offering a bladder that could carry Gatorade and water. My mountain biking partners typically brought along a bottle of electrolyte in their bottle cage, but they didn’t always end up drinking it when they should. With Dualocity the juice is right there at your fingertips. Replacing your electrolytes early and over the duration of your ride is a real performance booster and helps you stay cramp-free.”
The design is patent pending and Dualocity can fit in almost any standard size hydration pack. Each side features a hi-flow bite valve that includes a magnet retention system for tethering the bite valve to the front of a hydration pack. The drink tubes can be routed over separate shoulders or over the same side, whatever the rider prefers. Dualocity is equipped with quick release couplings so the reservoir can be easily disconnected for cleaning and filling. The reservoir is made from a USA-sourced film that is anti-microbial and taste-free.
If you don’t need two separate sides for a particular ride, the two sides can convert into a single, larger reservoir by releasing a sealing clip that keeps the chambers separate. The clip can also be opened during cleaning so that the bladder’s inside can be easily flushed. For now, the Dualocity is available direct from the Mazama Designs website or on Amazon. Retail price is $39.99 and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Mazama Designs also has two other hydration packs oriented towards runners and skiers.
Our Take
I am one of those riders that puts my energy drink mix in my bottle and pure water in my hydration pack. However, with many bikes these days only coming with one usable bottle cage mount, I often run out of energy drink before I run out of water. This two chamber system looks interesting and would give me the additional energy drink storage I sometimes need.
