Learn about the time Paul (of Paul Components) tried to build frames

Paul's First Frame

A bike built before its time.

Today, cycling is celebrated in all shapes and forms. There’s sub niches for everything from enduro to randonneuring, but once upon a time bikes were a whole lot simpler. The focus was by and large on racing, but Paul (of Paul Components) dreamt of a world where people commuted by bike.

He thought he would blow people’s minds by creating a prototype. His design combined the twin tube top tube popularized by BMX manufacturer Torker and a basket fixed to the frame. Other neat features included an Ibis Hot Unit, disc brakes (which were cutting edge at the time), and singlespeed dropouts.

Unfortunately, the idea never took off. However, Paul has kept the dream lingering in his mind and the bike hanging in the rafters. To learn more interesting tidbits from the man, his bike, and the early days of mountain biking, hit play.
