Interview: Tom Morgan, president and co-owner of Ibis
Ibis was originally run by Scot Nicol out of a small rural town an hour north of San Francisco. After 20 years, the bike brand was sold to an investment group, which quickly ran it into the ground. Just two years after it was first sold, the company was bought back by a group that included Nicol, Hans Heim (who helped start Santa Cruz Bikes), designer extraordinaire Roxy Lo, and Tom Morgan.
They relocated Ibis to Santa Cruz, the small coastal town known for among other things, its high crime rate and illegal singletrack. What’s perhaps lesser known is its pivotal role in mountain bike history. Iconic brands such as RockShox and Bontrager were born in Santa Cruz, while brands such as Fox and Bell have their global headquarters here. To learn more about Ibis, Santa Cruz, and its trails, hit play to hear an in-depth interview with Morgan, current president and co-owner of Ibis.
