Interbike: Chris Chance to revive Fat City Cycles

In an exclusive interview at Interbike, Mtbr has learned East Coast frame building legend Chris Chance is hatching plans to revive his seminal Fat City Cycles brand. Known for lightweight, hand-built mountain bikes, Fat City Cycles had a run from 1982 through 1999 when the brand was shuttered.
Chance wants to know what you want him to build. The Fat Chance Bicycles website opens with a questionaire.
Many consider 1994 the year the brand symbolically died when it was acquired by a holding company and moved from Sommerville, Mass. to South Glen Falls, New York. A number of the employees who refused to make the move started Independent Fabrication in 1995.

Fat City’s Yo Eddy model is a legendary and much sought-after collectors bike now, and it was nearly as coveted back in its day. Though most of Fat City’s bikes were cro-moly hardtails, the company made a beautiful titanium model from 1993 to 1999, and dabbled in full suspension with 1994’s Shock-A-Billy Full.
