How to pick the fastest line
Picking the right line can be the difference between winning and losing — or just not crashing.
Spotting the fastest line through a difficult section of trail having only seen it a few times or maybe not at all is a skill that only comes from practice. Top mountain bike racers have the ability to read the trail and carry momentum through rough sections and be on the best line to maximize exit speed out of the next turn
Our friends at the Global Mountain Bike Network were trackside at the Andes Pacifico Enduro to offer some insight into which line choice combinations are fastest on one of the gnarliest and rockiest parts of the race, a steep pinball section littered with rocks followed by loose dusty switchbacks. Come in too slow and get caught on the square edged rocks. Too fast and it’s easy to overcook the switchbacks. Here’s a primer on how to pick the fastest line.
