Heiden Institute launched by famed Olympian
After years of envisioning a comprehensive program encompassing all aspects sports science and sports medicine as a team approach to achieve peak human performance, Eric Heiden, MD, has announced the establishment of the Heiden Institute of Sports Science and Human Performance (Heiden Institute) located in Park City, Utah.
Heiden, a U.S. 5-time gold medal Olympian, BMC Racing Team physician, USA Road Race Champion, and Tour de France cyclist-turned-orthopedic-surgeon has assembled a team of professionals with 65-plus years combined experience working with professional, and elite amateur athletes.
“The idea of the Heiden Institute is something that I’ve thought of for years,” explained Heiden. “I am an orthopedic surgeon, I take care of athletes, and have been an athlete myself. I’ve understood that the components for a successful athletic career are quite diverse and have always dreamed about bringing those components together, under one roof, in a comprehensive way.”
The Heiden Institute is offering a unique variety of mountain and road cycling camps in 2017, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze Performance Packages. Gold level clients receive world-class fitness, nutritional, sports psychology and sports medical assessments usually reserved only for pro-level riders.
Silver level clients focus mainly on performance assessments, while Bronze packages entail fully supported rides, massage, meals, accommodations, and the educational components of each camp, but do not include assessments. All packages include daily high-altitude, challenging routes in and around Park City and the beautiful Wasatch mountain range.
Heiden’s clients will also enjoy nightly expert-led discussions from guest speakers on a variety of performance-related subjects including sports medicine, nutrition, sports psychology, cardiac health, regenerative medicine, training program design and more. Camps typically run six days, and include most meals, accommodations, transportation, bike maintenance and care.
Upon camp completion, Gold and Silver clients receive a confidential dossier containing results of their medical and performance assessment that can be shared with personal physicians and coaches back home to ensure long-term success.
