Sony unveiled its first 4K-ready action camera, the FDR-X1000V, which allows users to record point-of-view shots in full 4K resolutions. The camera, which will go on sale in March for $500, can shoot videos with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels at 30 frames per second.

Image stabilization when shooting in HD has been improved and continues to lead the POV field. Wind noise prevention is now built in the unit to avoid the always annoying wind buffeting noise present in most action-oriented activities.

Prior to this model, Sony’s action cameras could only shoot up to 1080p video. It will be available starting this March.

In addition to 4K video, the X1000V can shoot 1080p video at 120 frames per second or 720p video at 240 frames per second for slow motion effects. Sony has also added more manual exposure controls, such as white balance adjustment. The X1000V is being joined by the $299 AS200V, which offers many of the same features, but is limited to 1080p for standard frame rates.
