ENVE M Series wheels price reduced
Gone are any DT Swiss hub options for ENVE M Series wheels, replaced by the new Industry Nine Hydra hubs.
ENVE has announced a partnership with Industry Nine to create an American made hub pairing that will lower the MSRP of ENVE’s M Series mountain bike wheels to $2550 from $2980.
As a result of this partnership, the Industry Nine Hydra hub will become ENVE’s base M Series offering with a new MSRP. Chris King hubs will also be available. ENVE’s ability to lower the MSRP while delivering more performance (690 points of engagement) is a result of Industry Nine’s appreciation for ENVE rim technologies and a willingness to partner with a fellow US manufacturer. ENVE will also benefit by eliminating costs associated with importing hubs which have long lead times and import duties.
The ENVE M Series wheel line-up covers everything from XC to trail and downhill.
The new hubs, called Hydra, are part of a new phase of Industry Nine that’s the culmination of innumerable miles on the bike and hours in the shop. An evolution from previous drive systems, the Hydra drive is a project over two and a half years in the making. Hydra rewrites the rules with a leap to 690 points of engagement, or just .52 degrees between each engagement. The new Hydra drive system also uses an independently phased six pawl, 115 tooth drivering.
The innovative design utilizes a continually phased system, creating a procession of engagement points between pawl and drive ring. The design utilizes the inherent flex of the axle to accomplish positive second, third or fourth pawl contact. Hydra also tempers uncontrolled axle and bearing movements conventional designs can’t mechanically limit, thus improving bearing life and decreasing resistance, claims Industry Nine. Hydra offers consistent, reliable engagement without overloaded bearings, axles or hub shells.
And as always, riders can find their perfect adaptations with a universe of fitment, freehub bodies, hub and spoke colors, wheel models, and sizes.

ENVE M Series Wheels
Just as the dropper post did a few years back, the recent advent of wider rims and tires has made mountain biking significantly more fun. We at Mtbr are huge fans of rims in the 30-35mm width neighborhood mated to 2.4-2.6 tires. The revered Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR II combo, with a 2.4 in the rear and 2.5 or 2.6 up front is a perfect example. You can confidently run air pressures in the low 20s, which delivers the kind of traction heretofore reserved for tank drivers.
The hubs come in 11 custom anodized colors.
Combine that rubber with ENVE’s carbon M Series wheels, which are truly best in class, and you’ll be in a good place. The composite wheel line-up consists of seven models, each designed for a specific rider profile based on terrain, bike type, tire size, and riding style. Features include a wide hookless bead design. By increasing the width and shaping the contours of the rim’s leading edges, M525 (XC) and M6 Series (trail) wheels all but eliminate pinch flatting while delivering enhanced impact durability. (We’ve had exactly zero flats during extensive testing of the M630s).
If you step up to either the ENVE M7 Series (enduro/all-mountain) and M9 Series (DH) wheels, you also get a protective rim strip that aims to provide even more pinch flat protection, while protecting the carbon rim from impacts and eliminating the need for tubeless tape. The protective rim strip even provides an independent tubeless seal that retains air pressure in the tire even if the carbon is cracked or damaged.
