Tony Ellsworth, founder of the eponymous bicycle brand, walks us through the company’s biggest changes for 2017.

Ellsworth Interbike 2016 Booth

Tony Ellsworth, founder of the eponymous bicycle brand, welcomes the Mtbr crew to his booth at the Interbike tradeshow to walk us through some key developments in the company’s product line for 2017.

The big news from Ellsworth is the launch of the all-mountain race-ready Rogue Forty enduro rig. The bike features 140mm front and rear suspension, a 67-degree head tube angle, 420mm chainstays, and a 13.7” bottom bracket height for the trail taming long and low design. The bike is offered in medium, large, and XL frame sizes.

In other developments, Ellsworth gave its proprietary suspension system a makeover this year, renaming it the Active Energy Efficient Suspension system. Formerly known as Instant Center Tracking, the system is designed to maximize energy transfer and full travel activation at the same time.

Ellsworth claims to have increased stiffness over 300 percent in their rear suspension system thanks in part to a new hex bolt shock pin that inserts in either side of the rocker to prevent scissoring. At the same time, the Ellsworth shock stay exhibits less movement when there are lateral forces on the wheel due to a carbon torsion arch at the rocker and two hex taper axles (one at the bottom of the shock stay, one at the derailleur hanger on the opposite side).

Ellsworth Rogue Sixty

The Rogue Sixty is a trail slaying enduro machine, featuring ACTIVE Energy Efficient Suspension that's engineered to withstand the abuse of whatever you can possibly throw at it. With 160mm of front and rear travel, a 66-degree head tube angle, and absurdly short 420 mm (16.5”) chain stays, this machine will get as rowdy as you dare to go on the descents. What sets the Rogue Sixty apart from other enduro bikes is that once you get to the bottom, the lightweight chassis, 74-degree seat tube angle, and energy efficient 4-bar rear linkage allow you to quickly and efficiently tackle the climbs, leaving your buddies in the dust.

Ellsworth Epiphany

The heart and soul of the carbon fiber Epiphany 29 frameset is the fully-active ICT rear suspension. It’s a true four-bar linkage design that isolates pedal and braking forces from bump input. The result is a bike that pedals beautifully, yet soaks up the jarring impacts from the trail. Paired with the custom-tuned Fox DPS rear shock, ICT delivers incredible traction and control throughout the 120mm of rear suspension travel. You’ll ride with more confidence and comfort, and you’ll know that no energy will be wasted as you hammer away at the pedals.
