DJI Spark drone for mountain biking

DJI Spark Drone

The size of the drone is mind-blowing and it’s only $500 with included camera.

I recently bought a new drone. I’ve seen lots of people using them and several of my friends own them but they never appealed to me. I saw a drone like an RV, fun for everyone else except the owner who gets stuck driving or flying it! I stumbled upon this Dji Spark and it had some auto tracking capabilities and was reasonably priced, I needed to find out if it worked for mountain biking. Check out the edit!

So this may be a game changer indeed for taking simple footage in small, open bike areas. The GoPro Karma drone garnered all the attention earlier but it seemed like a big, heavy product not ready for prime time.

This one at $500 complete seems like a good solution.

The drone can actually follow you and get some decent footage.

Much of DJI’s technology is packed in this little device to make it user friendly and work with IOS phones.

Details:
  • Price: $499
  • Flight Time: 16 minutes
  • Transmission Distance: 1.2 miles
  • Speed: 50 KM/H
  • VPS range: 30 meters
  • Gimbal: 2-Axis
  • Included Camera: 12 MP, 1080p camera
  • Weight: 300 grams

The staggering part of this whole affair is the 300 gram weight. That includes the battery, camera and gimbal. For comparison, the GoPro Karma drone weighs in at 1006 grams.

This shot by the DJI Spark proves that there’s promise in this little device.

DJI put all their tech in the Mavic drone and this one is much more compact version. Note that the Mavic is quite a bit smaller than the GoPro drone.

The DJI Spark is shown here beside but DJI Mavic. Note that the Mavic is much smaller than the GoPro Karma drone so this is mind-blowing.
