Continental revises King tire series

Continental King Series

Nearly all of Continental’s MTB tires have been updated.

Continental has never been one to chase trends. While many tire makers immediately went all in on plus and fat size sizes, the German brand held back waiting to see how things shook out with actual consumer demand. Now they’re ready to launch, bringing a completely revised King series to market, highlighted by improved tubeless ready functionality and the addition of 2.6 widths in some models.

Continental Trail King

The Trail King has long been a favored tire here at Mtbr.

All four Continental King models (plus the Der Baron) have revised tread patterns, are billed as having better air tightness and seatability, boast reinforced casing for greater durability at lower inflation pressures, and come with new ProTection construction that’s claimed to deliver reduced weight in the neighborhood of 20-30 grams per tire. Continental also boasts TrueSize where sizing convention actually means they measure what they say. And all of the tires have a suggested rim width range molded into sidewall.

Continental Protection

The other big news is the addition of a Cordura protection layer (think the material used in high end backpacks), which is claimed to both increase durability and lower weight while also increasing suppleness. The two graphics above and below illustrate this new implementation. [Click the image to enlarge.]
