I want that one, and that one, and ooh, that one for sure!

Steve Domahidy, a 30+ year veteran of the bicycle industry is launching a new and unique Kickstarter campaign. This one is a children’s book entitled A Bike For You and is aimed at inspiring a new generation of young people to get on bikes.

The brilliant illustrations that accompany Domahidy’s words are by artist Rob Snow, who’s own collection entitled ‘Animal Behavior’ was the inspiration for Domahidy’s book to begin with. “I ran across Rob’s amazing artwork somewhere and was instantly taken by how perfect it would be to get his animal illustrations on bikes!” Domahidy reached out to Snow several years ago to begin talking about what would eventually become A Bike For You.

Rounding out Domahidy’s team is Artistic Director Heidi Volpe, who has worked as art director for many major publications including Outside Magazine and Vogue. Volpe is helping assemble the final book and layout for print. “Heidi’s eye for detail and amazing breadth of knowledge is an incredible asset to this project and I’m proud to have her on board,” says Domahidy.

The cheetah wants a fast bike indeed but the other more playful animals have many other bikes to choose from.

Domahidy aims to pre-sell enough books through the Kickstarter campaign in order to pay for the remaining illustrations and set-up and printing costs. In addition, Domahidy is giving back a percentage of the Kickstarter proceeds to Ride For Reading, a non-profit based out of Tennessee that gets much needed books into the hands of underprivileged youth, using bikes as the delivery method. “Ride for Reading is thrilled to be part of this project,” says Ride for Reading’s founder Mathew Portell. “Expressing the love of cycling in the context of a book is exactly what we are about and we hope the community will support it into print!” Domahidy has always partitioned off a portion of his entrepreneurial spirit to programs that give back to the community, beginning with Niner and the special edition IMBA bikes that continue on to this day. For the campaign, Domahidy chose to have Snow illustrate a fennec fox on board one of his own Viral Bikes.
