5F aiming to become Tinder for athletes
You know how your non-biking friends think you’re crazy for having a bicycle that costs more than your car? A new app called 5F is designed to help you find new friends (or love interests) who think blowing two grand on a new carbon wheelset is perfectly reasonable.
After downloading the app, you fill out a user profile by listing the sports you’re interested in and your skill level. There are over 100 categories, including XC mountain biking, downhill, and cyclocross.
After you’ve completed your profile, 5F matches you with local users. If you like an individual’s profile, you can give it a thumbs up. If that person gives you a thumbs up back, the app connects you via chat, and maybe the sparks start flying.
The app is the creation of Ursin Camenisch, who moved from Switzerland to Canada eight years ago. When Camenisch arrived at his new home, he struggled to find the time to make workout buddies the traditional way. With this app, he hopes to make it easier for people from all over the world to find new adventure buddies (and/or friends with benefits).
According to cbc.ca, 5F has been downloaded by over 1,500 users since it was launched in August. The app is only available on iOS currently, but there are plans to introduce it to the Android world soon.
