Zip ties may be the ultimate fix it accessory.

The Brits of GMBN call them cable ties but we all know they’re really zip ties, the ultimate mountain bike fix-it accessory. Invented in 1958, they were designed to cinch down airplane wire harnesses by Tennessee-based company Thomas and Betts.

Zip ties are a great accessory to re-attach items that have fallen off your bike, hold things in place, re-join two items that were once one and generally patch your bike up for the ride home! On top of that they’re lightweight and a small, simple thing to carry or stash around your bike for emergencies!

Little did the inventors know that they’d be used widely for mountain bike fixes. They’re light, cheap and strong… the elusive trifecta.

Riding back with your shorts flapping open is no longer necessary.
