Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini Childs Seat in Review – The first steps to a life behind bars

If, like us, you were planning your child’s first bike while they were still in the womb, you will also be keen to find a way for them to join you on bike rides as soon as possible. The Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini child seat is an ideal way to start your child’s cycling journey.

The Thule Yepp Mini is our favourite MTB child seat for children under two. The tall back, excellent 5 point harness with magnetic buckles, handlebar and foot straps all really help the child control their motion on rough terrain, rather than just being bounced around and inspire confidence in the design. Made from a non-porous foam that is easy to wash, as well as soft and warm to touch, the Yepp Nexxt Mini offers a reassuringly supportive and comfortable ride for your nipper. An additional face pad can be be purchased and fitted to the handlebar if you want your child to take a nap in comfort.

You need to be sure you have enough space on your steerer tube to squeeze in the adaptor. Those with very short steerer tubes may struggle.

The Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini is easy to fit, lockable and comes off quickly, leaving only the steerer mounted bracket in place. Whilst solid, the bracket is an eyesore and you won’t want to leave it on without the MTB child seat for long; this is only the work of a few minutes though, so it’s unlikely to put you off. When riding, the Thule has a ‘good enough’ amount of knee room but tall riders may still have to splay their knees out a touch to avoid rubbing. We were happy doing longer rides and riding rougher terrain with the Yepp Mini, due to its comfort for both parent and child. By the time your child reaches 15 kgs, they will probably be on their own bike so the Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini may be the only front MTB child seat that you will ever need.

Conclusion

If you want to get your kid up front as soon as possible, from 12 months – 24 months the Thule Yepp Mini is in a league of its own, quick to attach, versatile and great fun. We used this seat for over a year on commutes, gentle trails and our one-year-old test rider loved every second.
