The Lab: Uvex Sportstyle RX Glasses with Corrective Lenses
Our global test team has been pushing products to the very limit on the world’s toughest trails. In The Lab, durability is rewarded and weaknesses have nowhere to hide. This time, we tested the Uvex Sportstyle RX glasses.
Most riders won’t head out without sunnies, but it’s a thorny topic when it comes to spectacle-wearers when they’re classed as function rather than simply fashion. The UVEX Sportstyle RXd 4001 provide a solution though: as sophisticated riding glasses with corrective lenses, they’ve got direct glazing options and provide great protection for your eyes. They fit well with great airflow, protection, and vision on the peripheries, and the damage-resistant lenses are a bonus. Manne has been trialing the red and white model with Uvex’s brown photochromic lenses that react to current conditions, which makes them well suited to the dappled light of trail riding when you break in and out of the trees.
Unlike other glasses on the market, opticians are in charge of the glazing. In Manne’s experience, there’s been next no fogging on the lenses, plus they’re easy to clean and the GPS is clearly readable with the progressive lenses. Even though the variomatic lenses don’t come cheaply, can you really put a price on actually being able to see without having to squint against the sun? Manne is definitely in agreement.
