The Lab: ONE Industries Atmosphere Winter Gloves
Our global test team has been pushing products to the very limit on the world’s toughest trails. In The Lab, durability is rewarded and weaknesses have nowhere to hide. Frozen fingers while biking in winter? Who doesn’t know this! The problem is that thick gloves reduce your control on handlebar and brakes. UK editor Jim found out whether the ONE Industries Atmosphere keep your hands warm and sensible.
Cold fingers can be a right nightmare, ruining a good winter ride, but big, thick gloves can create hand pump and total loss of feel on the faster descents. These winter gloves from One Industries have been a constant companion of Jim’s over two winters in the UK, only having been replaced by a thicker Neoprene-layered glove for the coldest and wettest of frozen rides.
The Atmosphere gloves are relatively thin for winter gloves, but boast insulated back-of-hand and finger gussets; with a double-thickness palm material, they still give you a good feel from the trail and your grips, whilst retaining some of that much-needed body heat for those cold rides. The thumb is microfiber for wiping goggles and glasses, and they are also usable on your touch screen phones without removal.
The only downer of these gloves has been that the outer and inner fabric of the velcro wrist strap came away, but this probably could have been glued back together (as Jim has managed that before with other makes of gloves).
